So remember that time that we began a group, and posted about our progress frequently to keep our followers in the loop, and then just stopped? That was bad, so here is an update.
New Member!
Steve has left us to go to basic training for the Air Force, he will be gone for approximately 6 months! Tragic, I know! What are we to do? Find a substitute! We posted on Craig's LIst since that seemed to have gotten us the most attention before, we said we were looking for a tenor to be amazing and dedicate his voice and soul to the greatest and upcoming vocal band in the world (we may not have phrased it like that, for ego-less purposes). Through these advertisements, we found some auditioners, including Samuel. Needless to say, Sam rocked out on his audition and blended very well with us, so he is now a member of Love Note Sentiment.
New Rep
We have begun working on Ryan's arrangement of "Wonderwall" originally performed by Oasis, and it is about 85% ready for performance. We also have worked on my arrangement of Renegade, which is coming along nicely, it is quite the challenge, though. Hopefully in a few more rehearsals we will have it. Also, we have been working on "The Modern Man" originally performed by the Real Group, it sounds really good, we just need to get comfortable with it and memorize it.
New Concepts
Through discussion and criticism (yes, we actually accept and listen to criticism, which is key for improvement) from our members on how we can improve this group. We have begun adding in more harmonic focused warm-ups to our rehearsals, which truly develop our blend and let us know who sounds better with who. Now we also have more specifically scheduled rehearsals with time limits for each piece we work on, which has greatly approved our focus and progress. A new rule has been implemented into our rehearsals: Everyone shuts off their phones and gives them to Ryan at the beginning and we get them back at the end. This eliminated a large amount of distraction amongst the group. One final thing we are trying out is learning songs by rote - We listen to a song a few times and then try to sing along with it, picking out our own parts and making it happen with our own sound. This makes things difficult because it takes us out of our comfort zone of sheet music and keyboard, but the result is rather positive once we adjust. We have begun using this technique to work on "The General" by Dispatch. The harmonies are locking in and the song is coming together.
Vocal Biz
This past Saturday, I went to go see Michael Bublé (I know, you're jealous), and his opening act, Naturally 7. If you do not know who Naturally 7 is, google them an enjoy. They are a phenomenal group who have been around for 10 years now and they recently cam out with a CD "Vocalplay" which is comprised of original music! After the show, Naturally 7 was signing autographs and greeting people. I waited until the crowd dies down significantly and then went over and congratulated them for an awesome show, and let them know I was in Love Note Sentiment. Since Naturally 7 is based out of New York, I mentioned that we are in contact with Blue Jupiter and The Red States, figuring they would be familiar with one of them (they were). They told me to keep up with singing and that they would look us up. Figuring they would forget, as many celebrities do, I made sure to send them an e-mail the next morning once agin congratulating them on their stellar show and then asking them if they had any advice for an up and coming group. This is my attempt to further our connections in the Aca-World. Hopefully we will get a response and get our name out even more.
That is all for now, folks. Hopefully more frequent updates to come!
